sunday afternoon

Sunday afternoon used to make me a little sad. The sound itself "sunday afternoon" has some sort of melancholy.

I don't have class on Monday now, so it lessens its feeling, but it still gets me unexcited.

日曜の午後というのが嫌でした。なんか、「日曜の午後」というだけでなにげに郷愁漂う感じでああもう終わりという感覚から逃れられません。いまは月曜日にクラスをとっていないので、日曜の午後もさほど影響しませんが、それでもやはり寂しい感じです。

*make* journal

I have so many ideas to make stuff. So many that I can't even remember what I was to make.

So I decided to make a journal for my clothes and jewelry.

I pick up some images on the pattern books or pattern bags, sometimes the images on the internet which inspire some ideas, and put them together. I put some note about materials, notions, and sometimes I draw some. I love Muji's sketchbook, by the way.

So far it's been helping me a lot. I've realized that organizing information for ideas in neat manner is crucial for creation and it's very effective.

作りたいものはたくさんあって、いろんなアイデアはあるのですが、いままでありすぎていざ作ろうと思ったときに忘れたりすることはしょっちゅうでした。

なので、服とジュエリーのジャーナルを作ることにしました。

本や型紙の写真や、インターネットで見つけたイメージなどを集めて、それをノートに寄せ集めて貼付けるだけです。素材などをメモして、たまに自分のアイデアなんかをスケッチしたりします。無印良品のスケッチブックを選びましたが、なかなかよいです。

このジャーナルのおかげで、服作りが断然早くなって、次に作る物もわかるので、素材集めもしやすくなりました。

アイデアや情報をきれいに整理するのが効率的に仕事をする上で欠かせないということがわかりました。

big snow again

I was working on homework all night. Looking out the window it started to snow, and I hoped school would be closed tomorrow. I checked the school website and there was an "announcement" saying school will be open. By the morning, it was insanely a big snow. I'd never seen such amount of snow at a time. It kept snowing and at around 6 am, I checked back the website, and the announcement said the school is closed. Yes! I was on homework, and didn't finish it. Thank God.

一晩中終わりそうもない宿題をしていて、窓の外をみると雪が降り始めました。大雪の場合、学校が閉まることがよくあるのですが、この日ほど閉まってくれるといいなと思ったことはありませんでした。

学校のサイトをチェックすると、「今日は通常通りクラスがあります」の告示。雪はひたすら降り続き、夜が明けるころには今までみたこともないほど積もっていました。

朝の６時頃再びサイトをチェックすると、「今日は閉校です」。やった！宿題終わらなかったし。速攻布団に入りました。

My computer was reborn with Snow Leopard.

They say you need to buy the family pack for like $160 to upgrade to Snow Leopard if you have Tiger, (because they "recommend" upgrading to Leopard first), but forget about it, it works with $30 Snow Leopard directly. Although it's supposed to be illegal, I guess they just don't care. (The cashier at Apple Store asked me if I have leopard. So I said yes. Just to avoid unnecessary conversation.)

So I did it, and it's great. Not only faster, but also smooth.

うちのマックのOSはタイガーなのですが、去年出たスノーレパードが気になっていて、評判のよかったレパードがさらにアップグレードしたので、どんなものかなあと思っていました。やはり４年もするとコンピュータも古くなってきて、速度も気になるし、クラッシュもしょっちゅうです。

スノーレパードにアップグレードするには、まずレパードにアップグレードして、それからスノーレパードという手順になっているようですが、そのパックは１６０ドル。レパードがすでに入っていればスノーレパードだけのアップグレードなので３０ドル。一応、その「手順」を踏まなければ違法ということになっているのですが、、、それはアップルの言い分なので、みんな気にしません。タイガーから直スノーレパードが可能だとわかれば、１３０ドルよりは３０ドルに行くに決まってます。

ということで、うちのコンピュータもスノーレパードで生まれ変わりました。今日アップルストアに行って、ディスクを買ってきて、電車の中でわくわくわくわく。

レジのひとはやはり「レパード持ってますよね」と聞いてきたので、余計な会話を省くためにイエスと言っときました。

で、新しく生まれ変わったコンピュータ。早いだけじゃなく、スムーズで、グラフィックも鮮明、色も断然リッチです。

Stuff accumulate over time. It's unavoidable. Books, clothes, plates, ya, stuff.

I feel like throwing something away to get new stuff, and keep the "flow" in life.

I was organizing things on the shelf, and decided to get rid of some stuff and make the shelf look neat. And I found this.

It's a trinket box bought in "little India" in Queens a couple of years ago. I opened it, and inside was this mini Kewpie doll I used to attach to my phone. I forgot I put it in, but it's so me. I hope I didn't wake him up.

物は増えるばかりです。それはどうしようもないことです。本や服、皿など、そういったモノたち。

新しいものを入れるために、定期的にいらなくなったものは捨てるようにはしているのですが。そういうフローは生活していく上で大事ですね。

棚がごちゃごちゃしてきたので、整理することにしました。クイーンズのインド街で買ったちっちゃい入れ物が出てきて、中を開けるとちっちゃいキューピーが。携帯につけてたものです。ひもが切れたので置き場に困ってこの中に入れたんでしょうが、私らしいです。

eco fashion now

I met Eileen through the internship I did last summer. She is the PR for origin23, which makes eco fashion lines, and I actually ordered two fabulous vests from Alchem1st line.
She invited me to NOW showcase at some gallery this weekend, and I managed to go there today. Most of the "customers" were buyers, and I felt sort of intimidated, although PR people were friendly, but the show was very interesting and inspiring.


夏にルームメイトのつながりでスタイリストのインターンをしていたのですが、その縁で出会ったアイリーンが、今週末にあったNOW showcaseに呼んでくれました。
アイリーンはorigin23というエコファッションブランド（フェアトレードのポリシーや、オーガニックコットンなどの素材を使ったものなど）のPRで、あるショーで使われたベストがどうしても欲しくなったので、彼女に頼んで取り寄せてもらったこともありました。
このショーは、origin23を始めとするエコファッションブランドが集まった展示で、やってきた客のほとんどがバイヤーで私はちょっと肩身の狭い気もしましたが、PRのひとたちはみんな親切で、展示されている服も素敵なものが多かったです。

Some 13 year old kid started chatting with me on FooPets when I was playing with my Kale, and he freaked out when he knew I'm 31, and he called me a pervert. Yeah, thanks.


FooPetsでケールと遊んでいると、１３歳の子が私とチャットし始めました。普段はチャットはほとんど無視するんですが、とりあえず相手をしていると、私が３１歳だというのを知ってびっくりしたらしく、pervert（変態）と呼びました。ちょっと面白かったです。最後にはうざくなったのでブロックしてやりましたが。
