1. my new camera (Nikon D80).
I got a new camera for Christmas last year. And it is going to change my perspective on life. I have a point-and-shoot Canon which I still love and bring with me everyday, but this new camera is just amazing. It's totally a whole new world to me. I had never experienced a DSLR, and thank God, or thank technology, you never have to worry about the cost of the film or labor in the dark room. Well, film is still something you can't achieve with digital stuff, but... who cares now?
I'm not even called an amateur probably, and still learning and trying, but it definitely has became my new toy.
The problem is that I need to figure out how to store pictures. The RAW file is so large that my computer needs a little time to open it, and it's easy to imagine my mac will start to cry for digestion. So, simply, I will need an external hard drive. This is another reason people say a good camera is expensive.
2. knitting.
I actually started to learn knitting last winter, but somehow I've been hooked on it since I finished the second hat which made me ambitious and stop being lazy about figuring out how to knit all kinds of stitches. I even made a knitting journal - mostly for the future projects. (so many dreams!) And I registered for Ravelry - a knitters community website. So far I made two hats, ascot scarf, and fingerless gloves, and I'm working on a beret right now which I found on Purl SoHo's blog.
The good thing about knitting is that you can knit everywhere. I can't carry a sewing machine, but I can knit when I wait for a train, on the train, at a cafe, etc. I see "city knitters" often on trains and usually ask them what they are knitting. Sometimes they show me how to, and information about yarn shops and books. It's nice.
Another thing that made me obsessed with knitting is colors. It's just fun to looking at yarns of lovely colors at a yarn shop and imagine what you can make from them. Colors and patterns created by stitches - knitting is so deep...
最近のハマりもの。カメラと編み物です。
クリスマスに新しいカメラ（Nikon D80)を手にして、写真に対する見方が変わったと言っても過言ではありません‥。初めてのDSLRは、すごいです。今まで使っていたCanonのPowershot SD1000 は、それなりに素晴らしく、毎日持ち歩いていますが、DSLRはさすがです。画素の違いももちろんですが、遠近感、シャープさ、色の深みの差が一目瞭然‥。RAWファイルで撮ると容量が特大サイズなので今後どうやって写真をコンピューターに保存するかが課題ですが。（外付けハードドライブは必至ですね‥）
それにしても、デジタルカメラのテクノロジーってすごいな、と実感する今日この頃。フィルムの写真はデジタルにない良さもありますが、この時勢にフィルムの必要性ははっきり言ってほとんどないです。なので逆にポラロイドなんかが今人気だったりするんですけどね。
まだまだこのカメラについて勉強することはたくさんあるんですが、とにかくは、撮って撮って撮りまくる。それが上達への早道と、みなさん言っております。
２年前の冬に友人が教えてくれて編み物を始めたんですが、ここ最近、２つ目の帽子を編み終わった頃から編み物に夢中。ルームメイトに手袋を編んでプレゼントしたりして、かなり楽しんでおります。きっかけは、ケーブル編みができたこと！今までできなかったことが簡単にできるとわかると、すぐに「もっともっと」と野心的になる単純な私なのでした。編み物記録なるものを作り、Ravelryという編み物コミュニティサイトに加入し‥。ということで、今は、よく行く毛糸屋さんのブログで見つけたベレー帽を編んでいます。
編み物の魅力のひとつは、どこでもできること。電車を待っている間や、電車の中で、カフェで、どこでも編み物ができます。ミシンは持ち運ぶのはちょっと大変です。電源も見つけないといけません‥。よく電車のなかで編み物をしているひとを見つけると、話しかけずにいられない私、しかしそれで情報やテクニックが得られたりします。だいたいみんな目を輝かせて話してくれるので、それもまたよし。
そして、なんといっても毛糸の色のバリエーション。毛糸屋さんで、いろんな色の毛糸玉を見ていると、どんなものを作ろうかな、と夢が膨らみます。まだまだ初心者ですが、小さいものから始めて数をこなし、夏には頑張ってセーターを編む！予定です。
