spring has sprung?

It's been raining raining and raining. It's nasty outside. Supposedly it's the spring storm, but I'm not happy.

Found this video and made my day. A baby sheep is so springy.

またしても雨続きで、かなり外に出たくない天気です。おそらく春の嵐なのでしょうが、あんまりうれしくありません。

赤ちゃん羊のビデオがかわいくて、ちょっと気分上がりました。「ビーどこ〜？」と呼ぶ飼い主のもとに行きたいのに方向感覚まったくなしの赤ちゃん羊が飛び跳ねてます。春ですねえ。

not-so-standard fried rice

The New York Times has good recipes. I like watching Mark Bittman's videos and it really makes me feel like cooking. I check its website to look for interesting ones every once in a while, and this is one of them I was impressed - Jean-Georges's Fried Rice. What I like about it is leeks! Fried rice with sweet leeks is just genius. And the half cooked sunny-side-up egg is a must. Love it.

ニューヨークタイムスのレシピセクションはけっこう充実していて、マークビットマンの「実演」ビデオも毎回楽しみです。ビデオでは、さらっとささっと作るので、料理したくなります。たまにサイトをチェックして面白そうなレシピを探すのですが、なかでも超ヒットだったのが、ジャンジョルジュの炒飯。とにかく甘く炒めたリークス（白ネギのようなもの）をご飯に混ぜるというのがツボにはまっています。カリカリになるまで炒めたニンニクとショウガをトッピングにして、ごま油と醤油をかけて食べます。半熟目玉焼きも欠かせません。

yorkie trio - gizmo, kiwi, neo

I was staying over at these little doggies' place to take care of them. They are miniature yorkies. Gizmo is the oldest, and Kiwi and Neo are twins. Kiwi and Neo are super tiny and hyper all the time, and Gizmo is more like the oldest brother - sweet and mellow.

When I go to bed, they come IN the bed next to me. Three of them. Their owner is so lucky to have them.

週末、この子たちの面倒を見るのにアッパーウェストサイドにステイしていました。

ミニチュアヨークシャーテリアで、ギズモがお兄ちゃん、キウイとネオは双子です。キウイとネオはとっても小さくて、いつも遊んでほしくてたまらない感じで元気いっぱいです。ギズモはお兄ちゃんらしく、おとなしくて癒し系です。

寝るときは、３匹とも布団の中に入ってきて、団子三兄弟で私の横にくっついて寝ます‥。

ちなみにこの子たちの飼い主さんが、ブログでcuteoverloadな写真をいっぱいのせています。

a week of flu

It's very disappointing that I have skipped so many days already... but oh well, I can't really care. Just keep going.

So I have been sick. And it was a really bad flu. I think that was the heaviest sh*t I've ever had in life.

It started from headache, and then I had chills, muscle pain all over my body, fever,,,, it was so severe. I couldn't do without medicine, but taking a little too much medicine without any food (because I lost appetite.) made me even sick and I threw up at the subway platform once. So I decided to force myself eat something at least.

For about a week, I slept and slept but there came the point which I couldn't sleep any more. Still having headache and everything, I was so mad. I could feel medicine was working at least, but it took so long to get over! Ugh.

The weekend I was sick was just gorgeous.. I was so mad that I missed that beautiful weather.. Right now, I'm trying so hard to catch up with stuff because I'm behind of everything.

すでに何日も抜けブログになってしまってなんだかやる気失いそうですが、とりあえず。きーぷごーいんぐ。

インフルエンザにかかってしまって、真面目に病人でした。いままでで一番きついやつでした。

頭痛から始まって、悪寒、全身関節痛、熱などで、とにかく動けない〜という感じでしたが、なぜか喉と鼻にはきませんでした。しかし辛かった。薬なしではやってられなかったのですが、食欲も失せたために空腹で薬を飲み続けると、さすがにさらに気持ち悪くなり、電車もホームで吐いたほどでした。それ以降、とりあえずなにがなんでも何か口にするようになりましたが、１週間ほど、時間を見つけては寝るようにしていて、ついに寝すぎてもう寝れん！というところまできてしまって、まだ頭痛やら関節痛やらあるのでいい加減腹が立つ始末でした。少なくとも薬が効いているのは感じられたのですが、、とにかく回復するのに時間のかかったこと！

病気だった週末はすごく天気がよくて、外に出て遊べないのが悲しかったです‥。いまはたまった仕事をこなすのに精一杯。はやく片付くといいなあ。

lost hour

I didn't know that daylight saving has started today until 8 pm. No wonder I was so sleepy this afternoon.

It's been windy and raining for 3 days and I haven't gone out for 2 days.

今日サマータイムになって、つまりは今日１時間なくしたわけですが、私は携帯とコンピューターで時間を見るので自動的に時間が進んでいて、サマータイムになっていたのに気付いたのは夜の８時でした。どおりで今日やたら眠かったわけだ‥。

ここ３日、ずーっと雨が降っていて（しかも激しく）、風も強いので、２日間外に出ていません。

pattern on the street

I've been having a hard time with the assignment for Graphic Design Project class.

It's about creating a set of signs for earth, wind/air, fire, and water. Using simplified, or even abstract patterns, I need to design those has consistency to each other. I was thinking thinking thinking about those elements, searching images on the internet, etc.

Today, I was walking and saw something interesting. It's the pattern on the street. It's everywhere. That made me feel like I really need to go out and actually see "things" and feel them. When interpreting something in terms of design, seeing and feeling them is the best way to get the idea.

グラフィックデザインプロジェクトのクラスの課題のひとつで、自然の４元素（地、水、風、火）のサインを作らないといけないのですが、なかなかアイデアが湧いてこなくて、困っていました。抽象的でもいいので、簡素化したデザインで互いに協調性のあるサインのセットなのですが、考えても考えてもインターネットでイメージをサーチしてもなかなかアイデアが出てきません。

今日、道を歩いていて気付いたのですが、道は面白いものであふれています。柄や模様がいっぱい。それで思ったのですが、直に見て感じることは大事です。デザインなど、あるものを解釈してそれを別の形で表現するとき、そのものを実際に見て感じることは一番にする作業です‥。

deycke is back

So she's back! Yay!

When I got home from school, I saw her! Long hug and long story. We decided to go to the cafe around the corner for a quick gettogetheragain since I had loads of work to do tonight.

Long story short, she was having a problem with her visa approval back in Germany, and it was such a torture for her to wait for the "answer". I had believed 100% she's coming back, but I totally understood her struggle.

She is the one, of course, who is overwhelmed, but I'm so glad that she could make it. New life for her again.

ルームメイトが帰ってきました！

学校から帰ると彼女がうちにいて、長いハグと積る話で、近所のカフェで軽く再会祝い（でもないですが）をすることにしました。本当はちゃんとお祝い！としたいところでしたが、彼女も帰ってきたばかりだし私も宿題が山のようにあったので。

彼女はビザの件でずっとドイツにいなければならず、ビザが下りるまでそれはそれは毎日心許ない日々を送っていたのです。私としては絶対帰ってくると信じて疑わなかったのですが、不安はとってもよくわかります。

一番喜んでいるのは彼女なんですが、私も本当にうれしいです。

finally.

My roommate has been away for months, and it's actually a long story, but finally she's coming back!

I got an email from her saying, "this is not a joke. I'm coming home TOMORROW."

Hurray hurray hurray hurray!

I went out and bought flowers and food she likes for her. Oh I'm so happy.

ルームメイトが、長〜いこと留守にしていて、それも長い話なのですが、ついに帰ってくることになりました。

彼女から今日メールが来て、「これ冗談じゃないんだけど、明日帰るから」と。

やったあ！

さっそく出かけていって花と、彼女の好きな食べ物を買ってきました。明日楽しみです。お祝いお祝い。

I get tired easily recently. Maybe it's because of the change of seasons and lack of exercise, but I'm sure about my aging.

Sigh. Will get back to exercise!

最近、疲れやすくなったなあ、と。季節の変わり目と運動不足というのもありでしょうが、おそらく歳です（笑）。

またエクササイズを始めなければ。

touch and work

One of the most talked-about lately is probably iPad. They are so excited about it, even before its coming out. I am, too.

I'm not thinking about getting one, not because it's the very fist generation, but I need programs that require keyboard and mouse, or tablet. But I seriously believe that is the future form of the "computer". Touch-screen computers were seen in Avatar, (and probably in many other films in the past as well), and I thought that's really gonna be in the next 20 years for sure.

How amazing the touch-screen technology is its efficiency and speed of work, and efficiency of physical space, I guess. Everything is on the screen. If those graphic (and many other) works done with touch-screen system, it will literally be a revolution. And I think it won't take that long.

Bill Gate's one ambition is to make computers with voice recognizing system, and it's great if that's possible, but obviously touch-screen is much faster and useful.

Somebody in class was texting on his iPhone, and he was so fast. I said to him, "You're so fast!" then he said "Yeah, it's just about getting used to it". I'm so behind of the technology.. Seriously, touch-screen will be everywhere.

Another thing I believe is that everything will be wireless. Cords will be obsolete in the near future.

最近巷で最も話題になっているもののひとつ、iPad。まだ発売されていないにもかかわらず、みんな大騒ぎです。私も含めて。実際にいま欲しいと思わないのは、一番最初のバージョンだというのもありますが、それよか主にコンピューターを使う理由のひとつがキーボードとマウス（もしくはタブレット）が必要なプログラムを使うからです。が、実際、このタッチスクリーンコンピューターは、次の世代のコンピューターのモデルになると思います。映画アバターでもタッチスクリーンのコンピューターが出てきましたが、それを見たときは絶対に２０年以内にみんなこれを使っている！と確信したものです。

なにがすごいかって、仕事の機能性と早さ、それと省スペースでしょう。すべてスクリーンにあるわけですから、無駄な作業と面倒な通り道（キーボード＆マウス）がなくなります。もしグラフィックその他の仕事がタッチスクリーンになったら、それはもう革命です。というかそれも遠くはないでしょうが。

ビルゲイツの夢は音声認識システムのコンピューターを作ることだったらしいですが、それはそれでできたらすごいですが、が、しかし考えてみると音声よりもタッチスクリーンのほうが効率的なのです。

こないだ、クラスメイトがiPhone（もちろんタッチスクリーン）でメールを打っていて、それがとにかく早かったので、おもわず「早いね！」と言ったものですが、彼いわく、「慣れだよ」と。ま、そうなんですが、こないだたまたまiPodタッチを触る機会があって、そのキーボードを使ってみたのですが、画面が小さいのでなかなかうまくいかず。私かなり遅れてます。そのうちタッチスクリーンしかなくなるような気もします。

もうひとつ確信しているのは、ワイヤレス。近い将来、ぜんぶワイヤレスになって、コードなどというものは時代遅れになる日がくるでしょうね。

thinnest crust pizza i've ever had

Leo's owner, Hisako san invited me for lunch with her friend today, and she took us to a nice pizza place called Spunto in Greenwich Village. I liked it a lot.

We had chicken soup with bread for appetizer, two pies of pizza (eggplant for one, and anchovy for another, and the pie came in a decent small size), and pear and walnut cake. Everything was good.

It was a gorgeous day, probably the first spring-like day this year.

レオの飼い主のひさこさんが、彼女の友人とランチに誘ってくれました。連れて行ってくれたのはグリニッジビレッジにあるSpuntoというピザ屋さんで、ヒットでした。

味付けは少し濃いめですが、飽きない味です。薄い生地を売り物にしているピザ屋で、そのとおり今までみたことないほどの薄さでした。私たちが頼んだのはパンのついたチキンスープと、ピザ２枚（ちょうど良い小さめサイズ）ナスとアンチョビをそれぞれ、そして洋梨とクルミのケーキです。どれもおいしかったです。

風はまだ冷たいですが、今日は今年初めての春の陽気でした。

more clothes

I've been sewing whenever I found free time during the day, because I know I won't have that luxury once the semester close to the end, or school projects get complicated. But the projects just keep coming up.

My problem is that I start something else before I finish one. Like sleeves, zippers, buttons...

ここ最近は日中時間があるときは服作りに励んでいます。学期末に近づくと、そういう楽しみも置いておかなければならないので、今のうちに。しかし作りたいものは増えるばかり。

よくないのは、ひとつ仕上げる前に他のものを作り始めることで、袖やファスナー、ボタンなど、仕上げ部分の残った服がたまっていきます‥。

friday night at last

It's a victorious moment. I have 2 classes on Friday. The first one starts at 2:30pm and the second one ends at 9:20pm. I have 10 minutes between those classes, and so basically, I'm worn every friday night.

Somebody posted this video on Facebook today, and I thought it was timely for me.. OMG, I keep watching it. I can't resist this creepiness.

毎週金曜日は、２つクラスがあって、２時半に始まって９時半頃終わります。間１０分ほどしか休みがなくて、終わるころにはかなりへとへとになっています。しかし終わったときの開放感はすごいです。

Facebookに誰かがこのビデオをアップしていて、金曜日の夜にふさわしく気分が上がりました。何度もみてしまう怖さ怪しさです。

taste of everything

So, I guess I was the only one who spent more than $20 for the chocolate for class today. Most of them were Hershey's, Lindt, whatever you see at drugstores. It's ok, but hey, design students, have some taste.

This video made my day.

今日のクラスでチョコレートのサンプリングをしましたが、このために＄２０以上使ったのは私だけだったようです。

それはいいんですが、、デザインやってるのに、ちょっとは考えて選ぶようにしてほしいものです‥。

犬のきれいな映像でなごむことにします。このビデオ、ペディグリーのCM用に撮られたものですが、すごいカメラを使っています。犬たちの表情がたまりません。

mast brothers chocolate

I needed to get some chocolate to share with my classmates for Graphic Design Project class.

I'm creating a chocolate company in this class. And it includes naming, creating taglines, campaigns, packaging design, etc.

So everyone is supposed to buy some chocolate for tomorrow's class, and I got Mast Brothers Chocolate. One is "pecans and maple syrup" and the other one is "black truffle and sea salt". It's $10 for one, but it's from Brookyln. Hurray!

When I heard that we are doing chocolate thing in this class, Mast Brothers Chocolate was the first one to come to my mind. I've never tried them before in fact, but I thought their packaging is brilliant. From an article I read somewhere, it was to cut some budget for the startup business, because creating the wrapper and printing them cost a lot. So they used store bought wrapping paper. It's so Brooklyn in a way.

明日のクラスのためにチョコレートを買いました。グラフィックデザインプロジェクトのクラスで、それぞれチョコレート会社を作っているので、みんなでサンプリングをするのです。このクラスでは、会社の名前を決めて、売り文句やキャンペーン、パッケージデザインなど、各々がすべて決めます。

それで明日はみんながチョコレートを持ち寄って食べるのですが、私はこのマスト兄弟のチョコレートを買いました。ひとつは「ピーカンナッツとメープルシロップ」で、もうひとつは「黒トリュフと海塩」。ひとつ１０ドルで決して安くないのですが、それはともかくブルックリン発なのです。

チョコレートのプロジェクトをすると聞いたときに真っ先に思いついたのがこのマストブラザーズチョコレートでした。実はいままで一度も食べたことないのですが、このラッピングは天才だと思いました。なんでも、どこかで読んだ記事によると、新しく起業したビジネスで、お金を節約するために、市販の包装紙を使ったということです。ラッピングをデザインして印刷するのはすごくお金がかかるからです。ブルックリンらしいです。

A fabric store is like toy store to me. I can spend a day, like in a book store.

布屋さんは、私にとっておもちゃ屋さんです。本屋さんと同じく、一日過ごせます。

見ることは信じること。って誰か言ってましたが。布を見て触って、何ができるか見えるのです。
