angels in the city

I once did dogsitting in the Bronx in January. While the owner was away I stayed over there for 4 days to take care of Santa, a beautiful 2-year-old border collie. It was a "job" but probably it was the nicest one I've ever had. I took him out for a walk and exercise for about a half hour each time, 2,3 times a day. He is so good at frisbee, and never gets bored, like he thinks it's his job, or mission in life. And whatever language I use, Japanese, English, Giblish or Java, he just understands what I want to say. Such a smart boy. 

I haven't got a chance to see him again since then, but the other day, his owner told me that Santa had another brother Leo in downtown Manhattan, and Leo's owner was looking for someone can dog sit him during the day.
I met her and Leo twice, and decided to do it from next week.

It's sort of nice to see such a big dog in the city. They came from upstate NY, where they would play and run around in the field, and I wondered how much stress they have now in everyday life. I believe they are more sensitive to the change of situation than us humans. But those natural-born angels give us so much comfort and pleasure, and sometimes inspirations. 
...Can't wait to see Leo on Monday..

"Santa" is not from Santa Claus, but..

１月に、ブロンクスで一度だけ４日間おうちステイのドッグシッターのバイトをしたんですが、三太（三男坊なのでそういう名前になったらしいです。）はとてもきれいな２歳のボーダーコリーの男の子で、一度も吠えないし賢くて、何語でしゃべっても何が言いたいかわかってくれるのでした。１日３度、近くのドッグランのある公園に行って、３０分ほどフリスビーで遊ぶんですが、三太はフリスビーのプロで、何度も何度も飽きずに投げては取りに行き、持って帰って来てちゃんと私の足下に置いてくれる丁寧さ。

NYのアップステイト（大自然のある郊外）で９ヶ月まで育ち、森や原野を走り回っていたそうなので、いきなり街にやってきてまだ都会慣れしてない（オーナー曰く「この子田舎者なんですよ〜」）そうだけど、やっぱりストレスとか感じてるんだろうか‥。犬のほうが人間より敏感なので、いたわってあげないといけないのだけど、得てしてこの天使たちは人間に生きる勇気さえ与えてくれる。

その後三太にはあれ以来会ってないんですが、こないだ三太のオーナーから連絡があって、三太の兄弟がwest villegeにいて、その親が平日の昼間、レオの面倒を見てくれるひとを探してるということだったので、早速会いに行き、来週から週に二日、２時間ほどレオと遊ぶことになりました。レオも三太同様、とてもおとなしく良い子です。
