grand central station

I had no time to meet up with my classmates from the last semester, and finally we planned to do something this weekend. My class mates, Hubert and John are from the photography class, and since Hubert got his new camera, he wanted to go out for a photoshoot together.
I suggested Grand Central Station, mostly because I thought the weather would be pretty harsh.
It is an beautiful and "grand" architecture, and there are so many interesting things to take pictures. The only regret was that I didn't have my tripod.


冬休みの間に会おうねと言ってて結局会えなかった前学期の写真のクラスのクラスメイトと、グランドセントラル駅に写真を撮りに行くことにしました。
外は寒いと思ったので、グランドセントラルにしようと言ったのは私でしたが、三脚を持って行かなかったのは失敗でした。
とても豪華な建築で、中には面白いものがいっぱいありますが、やはり手ブレでシャープな写真が取れなかったのは惜しまれます‥。（代わりにわざと焦点をずらして撮ったりしましたが。）

I forgot about it. January 27th was the 8th anniversary of my coming to NY.

Every year on that day, I have gone to Tiffany to buy something for myself. Such a cheezy ritual.

I remembered a week before, but somehow, I didn't even think about it 3 days ago, and I blogged about Washington Square. I think I'm more concerned about paying rent, work, and school. MacBook Pro or iPad, or new lens for my camera seem to be more urgent than something from Tiffany now.

１月２７日はNYに来て８年になる日でしたが、すっかり忘れてました。

毎年その日にはティファニーに行って自分に何か買っていたのでしたが。（それもなんだか‥）

前の週には覚えていたのに、３日前にはそんなことどこかに吹き飛んでいて、レオといつものように遊んで、ワシントンスクエアのことをブログにしていたのでした。毎月ちゃんと家賃を払うこととかバイトや学校のことのほうが気になってる今日この頃。ティファニーの何かより、MacBookProやiPad、もしくは新しいレンズのほうが重要な模様です。

reactivating flickr

I have neglected so many things. This is another sort-of new year's resolution. To activate stuff that's been neglected.

So I put up more pictures on my Flickr page, and decided to "activate" it. I joined "groups" and started favorite pictures I found amazing. It's very important for me to keep myself motivated and inspired for the love of photography. Every time I see some nice pictures I get jealous and want to take awesome pictures someday.

Photography is "drawing with light". I love that definition - or the origin of the word itself. The light. That's all what matters. Light gives the texture. My ambition is to take pictures with texture.

永らく放ったらかしているものがたくさんあります。続かないのが性分なのですが、今年はそれをやめようと思います。（言っちゃいましたね）

去年作ったFlickrのページ（写真専門のサイト）があるのですが、最近また写真をアップし始めました。これからここでネットワークに励むことにします。いろんなテーマのグループに加入したり、他のひとのお気に入り写真を増やしたり。いつも素晴らしい写真をみるとてつもなくうらやましいというかくやしいというか、そんな気分になります。それもモチベーション向上のためにも良いと思うのですが。

フォトグラフィーとは、「光で描く」ことで、語源はそこから来ています。なにはともあれ光。光は質感を生むのです。写真を撮るのは光をとらえることで、私もいつかは質感のある写真が撮れるように‥研鑽あるのみです。

day 1

New semester started again. It was snowing like crazy this morning, and I was turned off, but all the snow was gone by the noon, leaving ugly mess.
Today was ok. When I was about to leave school, the sun was pouring in the classroom, and it was golden. Cold and beautiful sunset.

新学期初日です。私いつまで学校に行っているのでしょうか（汗）。
朝起きると猛烈に雪が降っていました。すごい勢いで降っていたのに、お昼頃にはほとんど解けて、べちゃべちゃの地面。いやですねえ。
今日はひとつしかクラスがなかったので楽勝でした。帰り際にのぞいた教室には金色の陽が射していました。

Washington Square

Leo's dogurun is in Washington Square Park. When I first came here, I was impressed by this arch. I'm not familiar with the history of whatever in this park, but it's such a beautiful architecture.

Fifth Avenue begins from here.



ワシントンスクエアは、レオのドッグランがあるところで、ほとんど毎日来ていますが、パークの北側にあるこのアーチを初めて見たときは、けっこう感動しました。ジョージワシントンが大統領になったのを記念して作られたそうですが、詳しいことはよく知りません。
フィフスアベニュー（いわゆる５番街）はここから始まります。

famiglia's garlic knots

Once in a while, I become addicted to garlic. And the garlic knots from Famiglia Pizzeria in East village satisfies my stomach. It's the best.


ときどき、ニンニクが無性に食べたくなるのですが、このイーストビレッジにあるFamigliaというピザ屋のガーリックノッツは最高です。どこのピザ屋にもガーリックノッツはありますが、ここのものほど生ニンニクべったりのものは見たことありません。ニンニクパンチです。５個で$1.50。生地は中もしっとりです。

rain

It rained so hard this morning. Warm as well. I was worried about my going to see Leo today, but the sun came out in the afternoon, and there was a beautiful moment for a while. I hate rain, but it clears everything up.


今日は朝から大雨で、気持ち悪いくらい暖かかったです。
レオとドッグランで遊ぶのが億劫でしたが、午後になって太陽が出てきて、しばしの間気持ちのいい光景があちこちで見られました。雨は嫌いですが、降るとなにもかも洗い流してくれるようで、そのあとは気持ちのいいものです。
