back to school

Back to school. Finally. And hopefully, this will be the final semester!

hurricane party

So true.

organizing life.

It's been about 2 and half weeks since I came back from Japan, and all I've done is clean and reorganize my room. And that was a lot of work. I tried to figure out what I really need now and throw away the other stuff. or donate them. I sold most of the books I've read and that only made me feel like something new and more valuable are coming.

Just sorting out everything was quite a work and I realized that "things" really accumulates over time. Remembering I landed in this country 10 years ago with just 2 suitcases, now it's become a history of "life". All the things I collected for a reason here and there...

Anyways, it's somewhat organized now, I had to get to work on school stuff before it starts. Hopefully my final semester. Who knows after that. Seriously, what am I doing a year from now?

Urban Vintage Cafe in my neighborhood was pleasant for a quick mood change. Yeah, I just need to get things done, rather than thinking about future.

hair accessories by colette malouf

Deycke gave me these awesome hair accessories by Colette Malouf. She worked with her for the latest lookbook, and Colette gave her a bag of goodies that was used in the photoshoot. And she gave me some. So gorgeous! I don't know where and when to put them on my hair, but I'm just loving them. Another good thing about having a hair/makeup artist as roommate.

Deycke is really good at classic style, and she's definitely showing it off on the lookbook.

baaack. to japan.

from the airplane to Fukuoka. see the rainbow?

Even my mom complained that I hadn't updated it for long. And I came back after all.
To be honest, I wasn't expecting much about Japan this time, even though this is the visit since almost 5 years ago. One of the reasons is living in New York doesn't really mean I'm far away from home. THE internet has made the world smaller.
But actually, I think I'm having a bit of culture shock. I think Japanese people are the most polite people in the world. I mean, those... shop staff and waiters.. Nothing is wrong with it, but it feels a bit too much to me.

Been here just about a week now, and I have a month here. Will be busy.

“The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once.”

It's been a super while again. I decided to write something while I'm sort of lost among everything. So many stuff to do, and I've been so stressed out. But, as usual, everything will fall into place in the end anyway.

The earthquake and nuclear plant thing is still a big concern even in my life, although none of the people I know was directly affected by them. I don't go for the patriotism, (most part of it is because the Japanese of my generation are totally far away from that idea itself.) but wherever I am, I AM Japanese, and I care about my country. The only two things I can do for them now are to donate some money and pray for them. But I do them seriously.

I believe in wisdom of people as social beings. We know by nature what we do when things like this happen. We are made to survive and thrive. We are made to care about the others. People in Libya, Bahrain, Egypt, Sudan, Japan, New Zealand, or anywhere someone I don't know is having one of the hardest times, must be no different from I am. Whether those lives are something they chose or not, there is this one truth. Life goes on. But nothing lasts forever. There will be a time when they see the light again.

Here in Brookyln, I can smell the spring. Little by little, things are moving. And they never stop.

grandpa's slr

I will never get bored of doing digital, but I've always thought I should do film photography at some point. Doing film is a luxury nowadays, and you can't check every time you take a picture. But that's the point. Aperture + shutter speed is what you need to know to control lighting. Because lighting is EVERYTHING. (at least to me.) The more money you spend, the better your photography becomes, because you'll be more attentive!

I knew that my uncle was into photography and almost all my (good) baby pictures are taken by him. So I wondered if he was generous to give me (or let me use) his camera because I was 100% sure he doesn't use it anymore. I asked my mom. She instead asked my grandpa, whom I never had an idea of connecting photography to. His only hobby is fishing. But it turned out that he had a very old canon from the 60's. OH MY GOD. So he said yes to give it to me, and I received it the other day.

It was Canonflex R2000. I had no idea about it and so I did some research.
It was made in 1960, only 8,800 in production (probably it was not so popular since Nikon released a legendary F series a few years earlier), and it's definitely a collector's item.
...Should I use it or... Of course I should.

This camera is beautiful. It's heavy and very sturdy and oh, the look. I love the typeface on the front. So nice and retro.
It came with a beautiful analog light meter in a separate leather case. The cases are also nice, of course, one of which with velvet lining inside. And the lens! I didn't ask her about the lens, knowing she had no idea about it, but very fortunately, it came with my favorite kind of lens - a fixed 50mm.

It will be a luxurious moment. The shutter sound, view from the finder, plus the memories from the good ol' days even before I was born.
