Since I got my Nikon last Christmas, I've never been interested in point-and-shoot cameras - except for film.
Now that Lomography is so popular that people are excited about film photography again, the mood and creativity of photography as an art form is getting more interesting. iPhone has such applications to simulate the creation of that kind of pictures, but when it comes to sort-of high end digital cameras, it's pretty hard to make those "grainy" feeling.
Photoshop would do, but there is no way to play around with something "one-shot" fun, you don't know what the pictures come out like until they are developed.

But going back to film is something you would hesitate to think about the cost of developing the film and organizing them... I actually tried those DSLR adapter and Lomo lens, but they don't do as I expected. Then it seems like that "toy cameras" are in fashion. Cameras with low pixels and no color adjustment hit the spot. Bluish or greenish color casts or vignet effect on pictures make them look like old time film pictures, and give them sort of vintage or Polaroid feeling. There are groups enthusiastic about those cameras on Flickr, and I couldn't resist trying out those toy cameras. It's a totally different way of enjoying photography.

Minimo is manufatured by some Malaysian company called POCKETARTS, and it claims it's a special eddition of Lomography, despite it has nothing to do with Lomo. It has only 2 mega pixels, and the charm is that it generates vignet effect, and it's compatible with a memory card. I had to have it. While toy cameras on the market cost about $30 or less, Minimo was priced about $75 - plus $20 something shipping. It's EXPENSIVE for that category for sure.

Thanks to my mom, I could order it from Japan. (still expensive, though.)

去年のクリスマスにニコンのDSLRを手にして以来、コンパクトなデジカメにはまったく興味がなかったのですが、ウィーン発のロモグラフィーの人気のせいか、フィルムカメラに新たなブームが起こっていて、デジカメでは作れないフィルム特有の雰囲気のある写真に興味がわくようになりました。iPhoneのアプリケーションでも、それっぽい写真を撮るようなものがあるようです。
しかしフィルムの現像とか撮った写真の整理とか、余計なコストを考えると、ロモのカメラには個人的にあまり魅力を感じられなくて、ロモから出されたDSLR用のアダプターでロモのレンズを使ったりもしましたが、期待していたほどでもありませんでした。

そこで最近ブームなのが、低画素で色調補正のないカメラで、青味がかったり、ヴィネットというフレームの端にできる枠（うまく説明できない‥Wikiしてください）ができるトイデジというカテゴリ。Flickrでもトイデジのグループがいくつかあって、トイデジに夢中になるひとが増えています。

ミニモはマレーシアのPOCKET ARTSという会社が作っていて、ロモグラフィーとは一切関係ないのに、ロモのスペシャルエディションと謳っています。（クレームとかがんがん来たと思われ。）
（超）くわしいことは、このサイトに書かれています。
ミニモの魅力は、ロモっぽいあるいはポラロイドっぽい写真が撮れるのと、メモリーカード対応なので、これは欲しい！と思ったわけでした。
トイデジの相場はだいたいこっちでも３０００円くらいなんですが、ミニモはなんと送料込みで１万円以上でした。それでもどこを探しても在庫切れ。しかし欲しい。ミニモを作っている会社に問い合わせてアメリカまで送ってもらおうとしましたが、１万５千円くらいしたので躊躇していたところ、日本のトイデジ屋のサイトで最後のひとつ！があったので、母に頼んで送ってもらいました。（頼もしい母。）

小さいので、電車の中で隠し撮りとかしています。

warm and comfy 2

Somebody had nice sense of humor and sensibility to care about trees in the street.

I can tell how she (or he) felt when she finished those sweaters and put them on the trees. Made my day.

Leo, on the other hand, were wearing (baby) socks today. His paws are washed every time he comes back from walk or the dogrun, so his paws are still pink and there is no coat. When it's really cold and when he runs around at the dogrun, it looks like his paws hurt.. Poor Leo..

道端の木が、セーターとマフラーを着ていました。

よくできたセーターで、ケーブル編みです。こんなナイスなセンスの持ち主はきっと毎日なにか楽しいことを見つけられるひとのはず。セーターを編み上げて、木に着せたときの気分が想像できます。

一方レオは今日、（赤ちゃん用の）靴下をはいていました。

外から帰ってくると必ず足を洗うので、レオの足の裏はコーティングがなく、いまだにピンクのままです。凍った地面で走り回ったりするとき、痛そうなのです。

それにしても、かわいいやつ。

scent of spring

It's still a long way to spring, but when there is a little break between those really cold days, I feel like it's coming. The day feels a little longer than a month ago. Nothing stays the same. It's definitely changing little by little. I thought I'm staying at the same place for long, but maybe not.

すごく寒い日が続く中で、ちょっとでも暖かいと感じる日があると、春が確実にやってきているなと思います。
変わらないものはなくて、すべてのものは気づかない間にも少しずつ動いているのです。停滞していると思っていても、そのうちそうでなかったと気付く日が来るのでしょう。光と闇は対であって、どちらかが欠けていたらどちらも成立しないものです。

warm and comfy

Not only human likes something warm and comfy (and soft).
Leo was cuddling up in a folded futon his owner sleeps in when I went to see him today. My heart melts.




今日レオのところにいくと、レオが飼い主のHさんのおふとんの上で丸くなっていました。普段は布団はしまわれているのですが、今日はレオのためか、レオサイズにたたんでありました。
とっても気持ちよさそうにしていました。
今は天国にいるラッキーも、冬になるとこたつの中で寝ていたり、温風ヒーターの前に陣取っていました‥。
犬だってふわふわしてあったかいところが好きなんです。

to do list

I like to-do list. Even though I never finish all on the list, it makes me feel like I'm on the way.
I put "finish hat" on a list today, which started this Christmas.

だいたい半分もやり終えることのない「やることリスト」ですが、それでもリストを作る意義はあります。
今日はクリスマスに始めた帽子をまた編み始めました。

Monday

Today was the first day to see Leo this year. The big snow we had at the end of last year is all gone, but NY is still freezing.

今日は年明けて初めてレオに会いました。まだまだ寒いNYです。

kale addict

I've been addicted to kale lately.
I love kale. Kale is awesome. I'd panic if I found no kale in the fridge.

Sauteed kale with olive oil and garlic, half of avocado, and egg became my staple for easy meal. I can't go without soy sauce, though.

I fell in love with kale so much that I made a brochure for typography project last semester.

最近ケールにハマっています。

ケールはキャベツの一種で、青汁にも使われています。日本にいるときはケールなんて知らなかったし、まさか緑のものをこんなに好きになるとも思っていませんでした。

オリーブオイルとにんにくで炒めて、アボカド半分と（半熟）目玉焼きと一緒に食べるのが日課のようになっています。実家から送ってもらうお醤油も欠かせません。

あんまり好きすぎて、タイポグラフィーのクラスでケールについてのブロシュアを作ったほどでした。

ケール万歳。
