banana cream pie

When I found this recipe, I thought I had to make it. So I did.
It's a very simple recipe, at least the filling. No baking, and it still looks and tastes yumyumyum.
I want to try making the pie shell next time..


バナナそんなに好きじゃないのに、なぜか作ってみました。
これは作らねば！という感覚になるレシピがたまにあります。
このバナナクリームパイは、とてもシンプルで（パイ以外は）焼かなくてよいものなのに、見た目も味もうまうまなのです。
次はパイシェルから作ってみようと思います。

今日は写真日和でした。午後、カメラを持って出かけ、チャイナタウンからソーホーまで歩きました。
すごく気に入った写真は撮れませんでしたが、それはそれで。

castella

Every time my mom sends me something, she put something else. Usually it's a lot, and I can't say how much I appreciate it.
This time, she put one of my favorite sweets, Fukusaya's "castella". It's the best.
Castella is a cake imported to Japan from Portugal in like 16th century. So it's named after Castilla.
What's great about it is the sugar crystal on the bottom of the cake. Love it.


母からの荷物には、いつも「他の物」がたくさん入っていて、それが毎回楽しみだったりするのですが、今回は、福砂屋のカステラ！いぇい。
福砂屋のカステラが一番です。文明堂は二番か三番です。
底の紙をはぐと砂糖の結晶がついていて、ああ、これこれ。なわけです。

amulet

I received a package from mom. Grandma bought me a necklace for me because, yes, to protect me from all the bad things coming this year! She also gave me scarves (anything long will work, as she says..) and a amulet from the shrine she often goes to. It's been really a long time since I saw such thing last time. But it's kinda nice.
So, I think I'm a lucky one to have such a loving grandmother.
Then I found a $100 bill in the drawer today! I Can't Believe It's Not Butter! I don't know why I put money in the drawer, but I guess I saved it to buy a Metrocard or something.


母から荷物が届きました。今年は厄年と言った祖母が、私のためにネックレス、お守りとスカーフを送ってくれたのでした。普段つけるのにはちょっと大きなペンダントですが、ネックレスとペンダントが外せるので、ペンダントを別のチェーンにつけて、重ねてつけるといい感じです。
お守りなんてかなり久しぶりに見ましたが、うれしかったです。厄除けに効きそうな感じです。
こんな祖母を持った私は幸せ者です。
と、今日は引き出しの中に１００ドル札を見つけました〜。らっきい！なんでお金を引き出しに入れたのか、それは謎ですが、多分、メトロカードかなにかを買うために置いといたのでしょう。

bright-eee

Storm is gone and so bright the outside.
Snow was still much left, but it wasn't that bad to walk around. Interesting that snow on the ground make everything look different.


吹雪いていた昨日が嘘のように今日は晴天で、まぶしくてしょうがありませんでした。
思ったほど道路の状況も悪くなく、しかし雪があるだけでまるですべてがまったく違って見えました。

snow day

I watched Avatar yesterday. It was good. Actually it was really good. I don't mind watching it at a theater again.
My favorite scene was that Jake rode the bigger bird (I don't remember its name) and flew back to the clan.


昨日アバター観ました。よかったです。鳥に乗ってるシーンが夢に出てきてほしい感じでした。もう一度観にいってもいい感じでした。終わってからみんな拍手してました。
お気に入りのシーンは、ジェイクが大きい鳥（名前忘れた）に乗ってみんなのところに戻ってくるところでした。
キャメロン監督の映画は大作ばかりですが、タイタニックなんかよりぜんぜんよかったです。


And we had a big snow today. Schools and offices are closed, and everybody but kids stayed home. I don't have class on Wednesdays, so it didn't matter to me, but ugh,, tomorrow.


今日は大雪でした。かなり降りました。学校やオフィスはクローズして、雪遊びの子供たち以外はたいてい家にこもっていたようです。私はケールと遊んでました。
しかし問題は明日ですね‥。
